We spent most of our free time the week of June 22 at the home of a very sick friend. Sydney was Tom's little buddy, and she did her best to bring smiles and laughter to Tom's family. We tried to prepare her before we brought her in to see Tom, but she was still unsettled when she first saw Tom. She said, "Tom scary." But that didn't stop her from singing and dancing and performing on her "stage" - the fireplace hearth. Tom's son John was Sydney's favorite dance partner, and she made sure they wore their "helmets" when they danced.
By the end of the week Sydney was asking to see Tom. Sunday morning she sat in his room for about half an hour. Tom passed away later that afternoon. We were grateful that we were able to spend the time with the family, but there just wasn't enough time. He was a wonderful man and we're going to miss him very much.
